Gaddafi's Women Bodyguards: Photos Of The Amazonian Guard

History shows many great leaders have enjoyed the company of beautiful women, but Moammar Gadhafi could give any leader a run for their money when it comes to the number of women he surrounded himself with.
The dictator had a squad of female bodyguards who had to be virgins to receive the honor of protecting his life.

The Daily Mail reported that the bodyguards had to take an oath to devote their lives to him and had to be with him day and night. They were well versed in martial arts and the use of weapons.

The Amazonian Guard, as Gaddafi's elite, all-female task force came to be known, comprised of women who were reportedly hand-selected by the Libyan leader and sworn virgins. Donning lipstick, heels, and jewelry in a country where many women wear veils in public, the contingency certainly turned heads. The women reportedly underwent "extensive martial arts and firearms training at a special academy" before they were officially inducted in the Guard, and their skills included flying fighter jets and hand-to-hand combat.

However, the Hollywood-esque brigade may have had a darker side. After Gaddafi went into hiding, a few of his former bodyguards reportedly came forward with rape allegations. In August, Seham Sergewa, a psychologist based in Benghazi who spoke with former members of the Amazonian Guard, told the Times of Malta: "Women came forward saying they had been raped by as many as 20 soldiers, sometimes in front of their husbands and children. In one case, a girl, around 18 or so, said she was raped in front of her father."

During Gadhafi's visit to Italy in 2009, he demanded 500 attractive Italian girls for an evening at his villa. He used the event to urge the girls to convert to Islam, and handed all of them copies of his Green Book.
Another woman who drew attention was Gadhafi's Ukrainian nurse Galyna Kolotnytska. U.S. diplomatic cables exposed by Wikileaks described her as a voluptuous blonde who was so close to the former Libyan leader that he never traveled without her. But she left Libya when a Ukrainian military plane flew 185 people out.
According to the BBC, Gadhafi married twice; his first wife Fatiha, was a school teacher. The marriage was shortlived as they separated after six months. Gadhafi has a son Muhammad from his first marriage.
According to Allvoices, Gadhafi met his second wife Safia, a nurse, in a hospital when he was admitted for an appendectomy in 1971. They got married in the same year. Safia Gadhafi is the mother of his seven other sons.
One other woman who hogged the limelight was Gadhafi's daughter, Aisha Gadhafi, who was described as the Claudia Schiffer of North Africa by the Arabic press.
Reportedly, Aisha is a lawyer and is married to Ahmed al-Gadhafi al-Qahsi, a cousin and army colonel, and is the mother of three children.
